Apply Trados 2007/Wordfast Classic internal / external styles

Word
Category: Computer Aided Translation (CAT) assistantsBack to CAT Software section

SDL Trados 2007 and some other CAT tools use a predefined set of Microsoft Word document styles to indicate text that must not be translated. These styles include:

  • tw4winExternal – used to indicate text that must be left out from translation completely. This is useful for marking original language in dual-language documents, for instance.
  • tw4winInternal – used to indicate text that must appear inside a segment as an untranslatable tag, which is useful for translating HTML, text with lots of untranslatable identification numbers or common names, etc.
  • tw4winNone – this style is not documented by SDL, but may have auxiliary use when you revert the document to its original styles.

TransTools for Word contains the following commands for manipulating Trados internal and external styles:

  • Add Trados tagging styles – adds tw4winExternal, tw4winInternal and tw4winNone styles to the document so they can be applied to text.
  • Apply tw4winExternal style – applies tw4winExternal style to selected text.
  • Apply tw4winInternal style – applies tw4winInternal style to selected text.
  • Apply tw4winNone style – applies tw4winNone style to selected text.
